Teacher jailed for sexually abusing autistic teen

EDMONTON -- A former city teacher found guilty of sexually abusing an autistic 14-year-old female student was sentenced to three months in jail on Monday.

Robert Hall, 62, was also placed on two years probation, following his release, after earlier being convicted of sexual assault, sexual interference and sexual exploitation of a mentally disabled person while in a position of trust.

As well, Hall was ordered to submit a DNA sample for the national databank in Ottawa. He has also been placed on the national sex offender registry for 20 years.

Judge Darlene Acton described the abuse as "wrongful sexualized behaviour" towards a "vulnerable" 14-year-old student and said it was at the "lowest end" of the sexual assault spectrum.  (more...)
