Former Ottawa hockey coach charged with historic sexual assault

OTTAWA — A former children’s hockey coach charged with a string of sexual offences relating to incidents alleged to have happened more than 20 years ago has been granted bail.

Kelly Jones, 57, was released on a $10,000 bond Wednesday, the same day he was arrested and charged with the offences. As part of the conditions of his release, Jones is not to communicate with the alleged victim, a man who was 11 at the time the alleged incidents began.

Police said the incidents are believed to occurred from 1987 to 1991.

Jones is not to be alone with any person under the age of 16 and is banned from public places where children under 16 are present or can be expected to be present, such as parks and swimming pools. Jones is also prohibited from seeking, obtaining or continuing any employment, whether volunteer or paid, that would involve him being a person of trust to someone under 16.  (more...)
