Gay Apologists Try Hard: In Defense of Brent Hawkes

On Monday, April 11, I attended a news conference led by lawyer Douglas Elliott and LGBT activist Rachel Lauren Clark in support of Reverend Brent Hawkes, a prominent advocate within Canada's LGBT community. The news conference was called to announce the establishment of the Brent Hawkes Support Fund.

Hawkes has been the pastor of the Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto for the past 38 years, and it was there that he performed the first same-sex marriage ceremonies in Canada, a bold step that led directly to the Canada-wide legalization of same-sex marriage in 2005. He became the first openly gay man to receive an appointment to the Order of Canada in 2007 for his work in social justice circles and human rights.

On February 1, Hawkes was charged by the RCMP in Kentville, Nova Scotia, with gross indecency and indecent assault of a male. The charges date back to incidents that allegedly took place in the 1970s. Hawkes has entered a plea of not guilty. He says, "I want to be crystal clear: I am innocent of these allegations. The purported events simply did not occur." The charges are set to go to trial in November.


If the case proceeds, it is certain to draw attention for a variety of reasons beyond Hawkes's profile.  (more...)

A church youth-leader from Peckham has been locked up for fifteen years for raping and sexually assaulting two “vulnerable” teenagers from his congregation.

Timothy Storey, 35, of Peckham Grove, was sentenced in Woolwich Crown Court on Friday for three counts of rape and one of assault by penetration.

The court heard how the Oxford-educated and ordained trainee vicar manipulated his victims into meeting up with him via sexting and social media messages.

The two young women Storey was found guilty of raping had given evidence following an appeal by Scotland Yard in May 2014. At that time, the paedophile had just been handed a three-year sentence for grooming girls aged ten to sixteen, and encouraging them to perform sexual acts via social media.  (more...)

Fredericton teacher's victim says incidents changed his life

A man who was sexually exploited more than 20 years ago by a former Fredericton teacher has told a court that his life was changed forever by the incidents.

John Robert Campbell was convicted earlier this year of sexual touching involving two boys over whom he was in a position of trust or authority.

The incidents took place in the mid-1990s when Campbell was a teacher in Fredericton.

The two victims were students at Campbell's school. Their identities are subject to a publication ban.

One of the two men read out his victim impact statement in Burton Provincial Court Wednesday.

He said that following the incidents in 1994, he stopped growing up, and that his self-worth was severely shaken.

The man told the court that he has since found it difficult to trust people in a position of power, affecting his ability to hold down a job.

He described Campbell as "an anteater of the hill of innocence."   (more...)

STAVANGER, Norway — Norwegian authorities have violated the human rights of mass killer Anders Behring Breivik by holding him in solitary confinement in a three-cell complex where he can play video games, watch TV and exercise, a court in Oslo ruled Wednesday.

In the surprise decision, the Oslo district court said the isolation that Breivik faces in prison for killing 77 people in a bomb-and-gun massacre in 2011 is in breach of the European Convention on Human Rights.

“The prohibition of inhuman and degrading treatment represents a fundamental value in a democratic society,” the court said. “This applies no matter what — also in the treatment of terrorists and killers.”

The court ordered the government to pay Breivik’s legal costs of 331,000 kroner, about $41,000. However, it dismissed Breivik’s claim that the government had also violated his right to respect for private and family life by denying him contacts with other right-wing extremists.  (more...)

Lawyers, in their raptures of indignation and flourishes of mind-numbing legalese, can ask for the moon.

Thing is, when the client’s a police officer, they usually get it. The moon and sixpence.
From juries, which are averse to convicting cops, and from judges, who are part of a shared law enforcement culture.

Fact: Of the 11 Ontario officers charged with murder or manslaughter since the inception of the Special Investigations Unit a quarter-century ago, not one has been convicted.

You’d have to be a really lousy lawyer or defending a particularly odious accused to lose a case in this province.  (more...)

Netherlands: Politicians and officials named in court as ‘boy brothel’ case begins

A court in Amsterdam has begun hearing testimony from nine witnesses into allegations that senior politicians knew about and used underage male prostitutes in the 1980s.

Among those implicated are Prince Claus, the late husband of former queen Beatrix, the former finance minister and executive director of the international monetary fund Onno Rudding, and former Amsterdam mayor Ed van Thijn, the Algemeen Dagblad reports.

Koos van Woudenberg, the first witness to give evidence, claimed to have been abused at a young age in the home of professor Ger van Roon in Amsterdam. He told the court he had performed oral sex on Rudding and saw Prince Claus at a bar ‘in relation to young boys’.

The main witness in this hearing is Bart van Well, who claims to have been drugged and abused for several years. Van Well said that at the age of 15 he was forced to have sex in the back seat of a car with Joris Demmink, then a top civil servant in the justice ministry.  (more...)

Incredibly, I lived in a milleau that touched on many of the topics discussed in this documentary. The University of Toronto, during the 1970s, was home to old Nazis,  Eastern European fascists, technocrats, Islamists, freemasons, and spies. I knew Evangelicals and Ukrainians who converted to Islam and integrated into the local Muslim elite linked to the Saudi Royal family.

Today, they are entrenched in both ends of the political spectrum -- radical leftists, managed opposition, pseudo-conservatives, destabilizing "independents" -- even cloying, deceptive pro-lifers serving cyanide with a spoon of honey. Or, carcinogens in homebaked cookies? Whatever gets the job done. The job? Eugenics. Look carefully at history and background. Look at hyper-politicization, narcissism, and sociopathy. And, bring your own lunch.
