Anti-bullying schemes in schools may be doing more harm than good, according to controversial new research.
Scientists from the University of Texas Arlington have claimed students attending schools with anti-bullying initiatives may in fact be more likely to be a victim of bullying than children at schools without them.
They claim that by exposing children to what bullying is and how bullies might hide their behaviour, for example, could encourage other students to act in a similar way.
'Students attending schools with bullying prevention programs were more likely to have experienced peer victimization, compared to those attending schools without bullying prevention programs,' said the study. (more...)
