Childline Esther Rantzen's fury at boarding school abuse cover-up

Childline founder Esther Rantzen has blasted an alleged Government bid to remove children’s sex assault claims from a report into boarding school abuse.

She said a claim by one of the dossier’s authors that Department of Education officials wanted 155 allegations of attacks, mainly by teachers, to be censored was “absolutely shocking”.

The 1991 report reviewed the findings of an experimental phone line for boarding school children set up by Dame Esther and funded by the Government. It followed a private school paedophile scandal she exposed on TV.

The report was never published, but the Sunday Mirror last week obtained a copy through Freedom of Information.

And it came with a damning memo by a DES official that mysteriously advised a “low-key” approach to publicity and moaned it was a waste of public money.  (more...)
