Chanting slogans such as “make racists afraid again” and “No fascists in our neighbourhood,” about 200 people marched through the streets of Parc-Extension on Saturday to denounce a man who waved a Nazi flag from the roof of a condo building earlier this week.

Speakers at the rally and march said their intention is to pressure the administration of the condo on Hutchison St. to make public the identity of the flag-waver in order to shame him, and to drive him out of the neighbourhood and out of Montreal.

The man had been spotted and photographed Tuesday by participants in a May Day protest. He was standing on the roof of the condo waving a flag bearing a swastika, the symbol of Nazi Germany.

The photo was posted on a community Facebook page called Parc-Ex Action Squad, sparking a vigorous online debate about whether the board of directors of the condominium should reveal the flag-waver’s name. Some commenters indicated the only way to gain access to the roof of the building is to use a resident’s security card. Several expressed outrage and disgust the flag-waver is likely a condo resident.  (more...)
