No sentencing for teacher sex assaults

A former southern Alberta school teacher who has admitted to sexually assaulting young boys is still waiting to be sentenced.

During a hearing Friday in Lethbridge provincial court for Jamey Brian Kristian, court was told the Crown and defence still need to schedule the sentencing date through the trial co-ordinator. That means there will be at least two more hearings; the first on Oct. 30 to fix a date, and the second for the actual sentencing hearing.

Kristian, 38, pleaded guilty Sept. 15 to several of the 26 charges he faces. He was arrested in Jan. 2014 after Lethbridge regional police investigated a number of reports of his activities with small boys. Police later discovered in his home pornographic photos, videos and a journal detailing incidents.

Kristian is also charged with voyeurism in relation to photos taken surreptitiously in changing rooms at Nicholas Sheran Pool and other public facilities.  (more...)
