Create safe schools: fully embrace the Christian f-word

Toronto shooting leaves three young people dead
On Monday, three young high school aged people were killed in Toronto. But during this mayoralty race the central issues have become transit, the economy and whether Doug Ford is an anti-Semite. It's a sad reality that some students are being killed in and around schools, a place that should be a very safe and friendly environment.

Last month another student Hamind Aminzada was stabbed to death at North Albion Collegiate in Etobicoke. Our thoughts and prayers go out to parents who have lost a child in these killings. No parent should have to go through the pain and suffering of losing a child.

Surely, we recall the former Liberal leader Danton McGuinty saying that Ontarians needed Safe Schools legislation to protect our children and make schools welcoming environments for learning. So, policies were implemented to bring an end to bullying and discrimination of every kind. The sexualization of our schools was the answer. And political correctness has stopped most people who disagree with this approach. Kathleen Wynne as a former minister of education and now premier has continued to completely back these policies. In fact, the gaying of schools has gone right across Canada.

However, these new rules and regulations have not curbed violence and bullying in our schools. The proof of this is that too many students (even one student is one too many) have recently been killed and many more harassed. Some students go school with knives and guns because they probably don't feel safe. Where is the Liberals' response to safe schools given the violence students are experiencing? Regrettably, these deaths show that the safe schools policies are not working.  (more...)
