Canada exported $14.6 million worth of military goods directly to Israel last year, according to a report published today by Global Affairs Canada.

A total of 50 military export permits were utilized to sell goods to Israel in 2025, the report says.

The military goods were shipped despite the Liberal government stating that it paused approvals of some new military export permits on January 8, 2024 and suspending dozens of existing permits for goods that it believed could be used in Israel’s genocide in Gaza.

Under the Export and Import Permits Act, the Minister of Foreign Affairs is legally obliged not to authorize military export permits if there is a substantial risk the goods could be used to commit or facilitate serious violations of international humanitarian or human rights law.

The report states that two new military export permits to Israel were issued in 2025.

The Maple revealed last year that these permits were for parts related to Israel’s Iron Dome missile system, which allows Israel to inflict massive civilian casualties at a scale that dwarfs its own losses. The two permits were valued at $37.2 million.  (more...)

Pope Leo XIV has delivered a stark warning on artificial intelligence, claiming that the technology is aiding the “normalization of war” and transferring powers of life and death to unaccountable “technological actors.”

The American-born pontiff presented his warning on Monday in an encyclical titled ‘Magnifica Humanitas’ (Magnificent Humanity). In the 42,000-word document, Leo highlighted how the “growth of the military-industrial complex has become a defining feature of the current political landscape,” leading to “a troubling revival of war as an instrument of international politics.”

In this environment, “the development and use of AI in warfare must be subject to the most rigorous ethical constraints, to guarantee respect for human dignity and the sanctity of life and to avoid a race to develop such arms,” he continued.

Popes typically use encyclicals to lay out their teachings on the social issues of their times. Pope Leo XIII, who inspired the current pontiff’s name, addressed the industrial revolution and inequality between the ownership and working classes in 1891’s ‘Rerum Novarum’, for example, while Pope Francis tackled climate change in 2015’s ‘Laudato Si’.

Since his election last May, Leo XIV has repeatedly warned of the destructive power of technology, describing AI as a potential threat to “human dignity, justice, and labor” in an address to cardinals last year. His encyclical goes a step further, calling for a global treaty to “disarm” the technology in order to prevent it from “dominating humanity.”  (more...)

Russia Retaliates After Ukrainian Strike On Student Dormitory

 

On May 22, only two days after Russian President Vladimir Putin concluded an historic state visit to China, Ukraine launched a deadly attack on a student dormitory in Luhansk, killing 21 persons and wounding 42.

Vladimir Putin alleged that the attack was deliberate and ordered Russia's military to present options for retaliation. Russian officials claimed the Ukrainian strike used long range weapons supplied by NATO and that foreign specialists assisted targeting.

Last night, Russia retaliated with a massive missile attack on Kyiv and the area surrounding the Ukrainian capital. Footage posted online appears to show that Russia employed the hypersonic Oreshnik missile in the attack.

Pope condemns ‘dizzying profits’ behind pollution in Acerra visit

 

Pope Leo denounces corporate greed driving environmental destruction during a visit to Italy’s “Land of Fires,” urging accountability over decades of toxic waste dumping.

Pope Leo XIV has condemned the “dizzying” profits earned by companies responsible for environmental pollution during a visit to Acerra in southern Italy, a region long associated with illegal toxic waste dumping and public health crises.

Speaking in the so-called “Land of Fires,” about 220 kilometres south of Rome, he urged a rejection of “temptations of power and enrichment linked to practices that pollute the land, water, air, and social coexistence.”

The area near Naples has faced decades of environmental degradation linked to illegal dumping networks. In 2025, the European Court of Human Rights ruled that Italian authorities had failed to protect residents from toxic waste exposure dating back to at least 1988.

Residents greeted the pope as he arrived by popemobile, with crowds waving Vatican flags and displaying photographs of relatives who died from illnesses linked to pollution, according to local reports.  (more...)

The Centurion Project's voter surveillance tool was built by US political operatives with direct ties to the Trump regime

The data on 2.9 million Albertans was loaded onto an app built with US funding, shaped by US political strategists, and deployed by a Canadian separatist organizer who spent nearly two years cultivating US partners before launching the Centurion Project. The question is not whether there is a US connection to what lawyers have called potentially the most significant privacy breach in Canadian history. The question is how deep the operation goes, who in the Trump orbit knew about it, and how far are they willing to take it.

On the night of 29 April 2026, David Parker stood in front of supporters at the Edmonton Oilfield Technical Society and unveiled the Centurion Project app, describing the technology as the same tool that "helped Trump win Michigan." Minutes after Parker finished speaking, an Elections Alberta investigator arrived with Edmonton police officers to inform organisers they were under investigation for improperly accessing and using the province's list of electors. Parker had already loaded the names, addresses, and voter identification numbers of every judge, every lawyer, every politician, every domestic abuse victim, every First Nations chief, every journalist, every senator, and every elections investigator in the province onto that app. Former premier Jason Kenney, on learning his home address had been shown to meeting participants, retained legal counsel and said he had previously received threats from people involved with the separatist, anti-vaccine, and far-right movements in Alberta. The database was accessible to anyone with the link, with no identity verification required.

Parker is a former Harper PMO staffer and the founder of Take Back Alberta, the political machinery credited with installing Danielle Smith as leader of the United Conservative Party. Smith attended Parker's wedding in 2023. UCP caucus staff attended an online Centurion Project meeting in April 2026, though the UCP says staff believed the data being presented had been legally obtained. Smith says she learned about the breach through media reports.

Elections Alberta confirmed the list came from the Republican Party of Alberta, a registered provincial party that advocates for independence, which had lawful access to the data. Investigators use fictitious "salt" names seeded into lists distributed to parties to identify the source of any leaked copy. Those salt names appeared in the Centurion database. Parker has not denied this. He has described the database as "like a phone book" and said it was intended to help volunteers search for friends and acquaintances they could canvass. He has also said he obtained the list on what he described as the black market for $45,000. Both things cannot be simultaneously true.  (more...)

A massive explosion that rocked the Beit Shemesh area near occupied al-Quds on Saturday night has triggered growing skepticism inside the Israeli occupation amid questions surrounding the official explanation of the incident and the secrecy surrounding it.

The blast, which produced a huge fireball visible across wide areas and was heard by settlers in multiple locations, prompted confusion and concern after no prior warnings or immediate official clarifications were issued.

Shortly after the incident, the Israeli security company Tomer claimed the explosion was part of a “pre-planned and successful test” conducted under the supervision of the security establishment.

However, several Israeli journalists and military correspondents openly questioned the official account, pointing to the scale of the explosion, its timing, and the lack of visible emergency preparations.  (more...)

Leaked documents have revealed the US tech firm Cisco Systems’ deep relationship with the Israeli regime in its continuous wars in West Asia, which the United States backs.

The papers leaked by Drop Site News on Friday reveal that Cisco has a deep illegal relationship with the Israeli regime and supported Tel Aviv forces in their atrocities against the people of Palestine, and beyond.

The Silicon Valley-based company, which produces hardware, software, telecommunications equipment, and other high-technology services used in networking, cybersecurity, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems, provided support and infrastructure to Israel in its genocidal war against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, and also ran unlawful operations in illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank.

The leaked papers provided to Drop Site by whistleblowers show Cisco’s deep and growing collaboration with the Israeli military and intelligence communities for its genocide in Gaza and continued regional wars.

Hackers have breached tank readers at US gas stations; officials suspect Iran is responsible

 

U.S. officials suspect Iranian hackers are behind a series of breaches of systems that monitor the amount of fuel in storage tanks serving gas stations in multiple states, according to multiple sources briefed on the activity.

CNN was the first to report the suspected hackings and Iran's possible involvement.

The hackers responsible have exploited automatic tank gauge (ATG) systems that were sitting online and unprotected by passwords, allowing them in some cases to tinker with display readings on the tanks but not the actual levels of fuel in them, the sources said.

The cyber intrusions are not known to have caused physical damage or harm, but the breaches have raised safety concerns because gaining access to an ATG could, in theory, allow a hacker to make a gas leak go undetected, according to private experts and U.S. officials.

The sources briefed on the investigation said Iran’s history of targeting the gas tank systems is one reason the country is a top suspect. But, the sources cautioned, the U.S. government may not be able to definitively determine who was responsible because of a lack of forensic evidence left by the hackers.

CNN has requested comment on the ATG hack from the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. The FBI declined to comment.  (more...)

Pope Leo XIV has condemned rising European military spending, warning that rearmament betrays diplomacy and fuels tensions in a world already being “maimed by wars.”

Global military spending approached a record $3 trillion in 2025 despite lower US outlays, according to a SIPRI report released last month, with Europe recording the sharpest regional increase. SIPRI linked the surge to the Ukraine conflict, tensions with Russia, and growing US pressure for greater NATO burden sharing.

Pope Leo argued that such policies should not be described as defense, but as dangerous rearmament. Addressing students at Rome’s Sapienza University on Thursday, he said that young people were asking older generations what kind of world they would leave behind.

“A world unfortunately maimed by wars… In the last year, the growth in military spending worldwide, and particularly in Europe, has been enormous,” the pontiff said. “Let’s not call ‘defense’ a rearmament that increases tensions and insecurity, depletes investments in education and healthcare, undermines trust in diplomacy, and enriches elites who care nothing for the common good.”

He also warned about the growing use of artificial intelligence in warfare, citing conflicts in Ukraine, Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran as evidence of “the inhumane evolution of the relationship between war and new technologies in a spiral of annihilation.”  (more...)

The Handala hacker group announced it had breached communications belonging to a figure it described as a central architect of the Israeli normalization accords and an organizer of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s reported March visit to the United Arab Emirates.

In a statement released Thursday alongside published images and documents, the group identified the individual as Samuel Shay, noting that he played a key role in behind-the-scenes coordination between the Israeli government and Gulf states.

Handala described Shay as the “mastermind behind Netanyahu’s UAE visit” and stated that it had exposed what it characterized as a covert regional political, economic, and “security” network.

The group asserted that Shay acted as a facilitator of relations between Tel Aviv and Abu Dhabi through business and strategic initiatives involving Gulf states and "Israel".  (more...)

Cisco Systems is one of the most consequential—yet least visible—corporations in Silicon Valley. The San Jose-based networking giant, with a market capitalization in excess of $270 billion and annual revenue of $56.7 billion in 2025, manufactures the routers, switches, firewalls, and communications platforms that run the internet’s infrastructure, as well as many of its worldwide corporate, government, and military networks.

Cisco makes a point of publicly highlighting its commitment to corporate social responsibility, and building “an inclusive future for all” in the dozens of countries around the world in which it operates. Yet the company’s aggressive pursuit of contracts with the Israeli government and military—a small yet growing part of its global business—has led to accusations that behind this sunny facade the networking giant is profiting from genocide.

A new set of leaked documents—provided to Drop Site by whistleblowers disturbed by the company’s operations in Israel—shows Cisco’s deep and growing collaboration with the Israeli military and intelligence establishment in its regional wars and the genocide in Gaza.

In 2025, an Israeli Air Force officer publicly discussed using Cisco-powered infrastructure to support operations. The anonymous officer, identified as the head of the Israeli Air Force’s operational branch, told a tech conference in Israel that the Air Force had conducted “tens of thousands of attacks” in the past year, and described how IT systems had been vital to enabling this combat activity. The officer referenced Cisco infrastructure being used by air force intelligence personnel for communications and managing high volumes of operational data—including the use of networking tools by drone operators and ground forces to store and analyze videos and share coordinates for strikes.

Cisco’s work with the Israeli government and military has been documented in public news reports and new business announcements in the country. But the internal documents—including presentations, purchase and revenue records, and schedules—shed light on the rapidly expanding list of services that Cisco has been providing directly to the Israeli Ministry of Defense and other branches of the security state over the past several years.  (more...)

THE INVISIBLE HAND: Israel’s Covert Ops in Canada, Redacted by Ottawa

 

For years, “foreign interference” has been the scarecrow Ottawa drags out whenever Beijing or Moscow are on the menu. Beijing, Moscow, Tehran… the enemy list is familiar, rehearsed, and politically safe. However, a new report from Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) blows straight through that narrative at the moment when politicians act outraged about Chinese influence, a close military partner has been running its own operations on Canadian soil and getting away with it. The document isn’t written in the soft language of a funding appeal; on the page, it reads like a case file that follows how Israeli diplomats, ministries and cut-outs bankroll opinion polls, undermine consumer labelling rules, organise propaganda junkets, pump out racist disinformation and ship spyware into Canada’s policing ecosystem.

The report also makes a broader point that shouldn’t be missed. These episodes are not random. To the contrary, they sit inside a much larger state effort to shape opinion abroad. CJPME notes that Israel’s 2026 budget reserved about $730 million for overseas image management, or hasbara, suggesting that what has surfaced in Canada is likely only a fraction of the full operation.

What’s in the investigative report has nothing to do with some fuzzy “diaspora” culture war; it shows Israel moving pieces inside Canada through Canadian firms, front groups and parts of the security apparatus to protect its image after the ongoing genocide in Gaza and the assault on Lebanon, while exposing how this foreign state goes after people who refuse to look away.

In 2023, the Toronto Star reported, as cited by CJPME, that Canadian security agencies had flagged Israel as one of six states “potentially engaging in influence activities” in Canada, alongside China, India, Russia, Saudi Arabia and Iran. Not long after, “The Breach Investigation” cited in the report found that the Israeli consulate in Toronto had secretly commissioned a poll through Aurora Strategies Global to inflate apparent Canadian support for the war in Gaza.

The mechanics matter. Israeli officials used a Canadian firm to place polling in the public sphere, dressed up as neutral research while hiding the real client. Liberal insiders in the “Lib Friends of Israel” WhatsApp group were reportedly told the poll had been done on behalf of the consulate and discussed getting it in front of the Prime Minister’s Office before release. Calling this “debate” is a stretch; what you see here is perception management bankrolled from abroad.  (more...)
