Premier Wynne has no right to dismiss sex curriculum protestors as "mentally ill"

Since 2012, the Associated Press (AP) has stopped using the word "homophobia." The why in a moment. However, the premier of Ontario,Wynne continues to see no problem in calling those who object to the radical sex curriculum as "homophobic." Wynne uses the word to try and silence any disagreement with the controversial sex curriculum.

Perhaps Wynne, and those who agree with her, such as the principal of Thorncliffe Park Public School Jeff Crane, should look up the meaning of phobia. It's defined "as an irrational, uncontrollable fear, often a form of mental illness." The AP Style Book's editor Dave Mithhorn has said that, "Homophobia especially -- it's just off the mark. It's ascribing a mental disability to someone, and suggests a knowledge that we don't have. It seems inaccurate. Instead, we would use something more neutral: anti-gay, or some such, if we had reason to believe that was the case. We want to be precise and accurate and neutral in our phrasing." The government of Ontario should take a page from AP Style Book.

So when the Premier and others call those who disagree with the age inappropriate sex curriculum "homophobes" they're actually saying that those who oppose it are mentally disabled.  (more...)
