Defiance Against the Gaystapo: Kennedy may bring overturning of her Board of Health appointment to city’s Integrity Commissioner

Toronto Council voted to reject a controversial Toronto Catholic School Board trustee’s appointment to the Toronto Board of Health — a move that the trustee, Ward 11’s Angela Kennedy, is considering bringing to the city’s Integrity Commissioner.

“I feel like my freedom of speech, my freedom of religion, my freedom of conscience has been violated,” said Kennedy in an interview April 1. “Whenever anybody feels like that our democracy has failed. The city prides itself on saying Diversity is Our Strength. Well they’re not interested in hearing any diverse opinions that contradict their own opinions.”

Kennedy is a registered nurse and a trustee on the Toronto Catholic School Board. As a part of the city’s procedure for appointing members of the Toronto Board of Health, the board put forward her name as a nomination for the single school board seat on the board that governs public health matters.

For more than a decade, that position has gone to a public school trustee. This year, the city’s Public Appointments Committee decided to appoint Kennedy.

But since that recommendation, details of Kennedy’s voting records had emerged—details which put a spotlight on her opposition to gay straight alliances in schools and opposition to the HPV vaccine being delivered to student among other positions. She opposes abortion.

Health Board Chair Joe Mihevc and others on council disagreed with the recommendation—and at Toronto Council Tuesday evening, convinced a majority of councillors to overturn it.

Now, Kennedy says she’s considering legal action.  (more...)

  1. Disgusting. This is fascism in white gloves. At least the sad Gord Perks is more honest in his approach (but I have news for him: the Nazis and Communists had a "legal mandate") then the cunning and slippery John Tory. Yet all these fascists have one thing in common: agree with them, they manifest as doves. Disagree and out come the talons of a hawk.
