Do not support the first genocide carried out by Big Tech

Amazon Google International Human Rights Law genocide complicity technology crimes against humanity atrocities Palestine solidarity boycott divestment sanction ICJ ruling

This Black Friday, boycott Amazon to end Big Tech’s complicity in the mass murder of Palestinians.

The role of tech giants like Google and Amazon Web Services in perpetrating the plausible genocide in the Gaza is coming under increasing scrutiny. Their involvement in advanced military operations implicates them in violations of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and International Human Rights Law (IHRL). The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has already issued recommendations to states and private companies to stop their complicity in Israel’s genocide. The tech industry’s role in state-sponsored violence cannot be ignored.

#MakeAmazonPay is a campaign of 80 organizations, across continents, that draws sharp focus on various abuses being committed by the corporate giant on labor, tax, climate, data and racial justice, and has garnered the advocacy of hundreds of legislators, and massive support from across the world. Since 2020, they have organized four global days of action on Black Friday. This year, the campaign will spotlight Amazon’s complicity in the genocide against Palestinians, as Black Friday happens fall on International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian People.

At the heart of the controversy is Project Nimbus, a collaboration between Google, AWS, and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), more commonly known as the Israeli Occupying Forces (IOF). This project, whereby Google and AWS provide cloud computing and artificial intelligence services to the IOF, significantly enhances Israel’s surveillance and automated weaponry capabilities. One such system is the Habsora, the Hebrew word for “Gospel”, a brand new method of warfare which employs cloud technology for precision targeting, often resulting in mass civilian casualties. As Wired reports, these systems utilize sophisticated data analysis to identify and target individuals, raising critical issues regarding the distinction between combatants and civilians – a fundamental principle of IHL.  (more...)

Ireland has long been one of the most vocal EU countries to support Palestine.

It was the first to recognise it as a state, and earlier this year, it even appointed a permanent ambassador. But with an election just around the corner, people in Dublin have told TRT World’s Victoria Innes that they will always ask for more from those in power.

Israel's Erasure Of The Arab Jew

Iraq Arab Jews Avi Shlaim identity memoir book Ottoman Empire multiculturalism nationalism Israel discrimination exclusion

At 78 years old Avi Shlaim is writing his own history to correct the record of what he calls “a deliberately distorted history in the service of Zionist propaganda.” His groundbreaking 2023 memoir, Three Worlds: Memoirs of an Arab Jew, is a rejection of the idea of a Clash of Civilizations. Instead, pointing to a childhood where an Iraqi Jewish community was in coexistence and part of a cosmopolitan Iraq; an Iraq his family never wanted to leave. Shlaim meticulously traces his family history along and among the history of Israel's settler colonial project and what he pulls out is a rich history that doesn’t fit the dominant narrative promulgated by the state of Israel.

Media finally reports that many Canadians oppose NATO

Canada NATO Montreal criticism protest CLAC colonialism imperialism militarism Palestine solidarity activism

A large raucous protest put criticism of Canada’s most damaging international accord back on the public radar.

In response to the opening of North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s 70th anniversary Parliamentary Assembly in Montreal 1,500 protested Friday to “Block NATO”. The main banner at the front of the night march stated: “Block NATO: Reject Militarism, Imperialism & Colonialism”. For weeks my neighbourhood was plastered with posters saying “Bloquons L’OTAN”. The Convergence des Luttes anti-capitaliste (CLAC) also produced a sticker with that message and a 16-page anti-NATO paper.

The image at the centre of their material was a boot stepping on NATO. That image, CLAC’s militant history, starting the march at night and a large student strike led to a raucous march. Some protesters probably intended to break windows at the convention centre hosting the NATO meeting. The police initially blamed protesters for setting fires in two cars but it appears tear gas canisters fired by the police were responsible. They must have fired many canisters as I tasted tear gas two blocks away from where the conflict escalated. Beyond the chemical irritants ingested by protesters and passersby, the police injured a handful of protesters.  (more...)

How Zionism Confuses, Cons and Co-opts, with Rabbi Yaakov Shapiro

Zionism Judaism Evangelicals religion holiness worldliness military power politics imperialism

This video, hosted by Dan Cohen and featuring Rabbi Yaakov Shapiro, critically examines Zionism's origins, ideology, and impact.

It reveals Zionism’s roots in 16th-century Christian evangelical theology and its evolution into a political nationalist movement, contrasting sharply with Judaism’s spiritual essence. Rabbi Shapiro argues that Zionism appropriates Jewish symbols and narratives to legitimize its secular goals, often conflating anti-Zionism with anti-Semitism to silence critique. The discussion highlights the pivotal role of British evangelical Christians, the ideological transformation led by figures like Theodore Herzl, and the displacement and conflict stemming from the establishment of the State of Israel. It underscores the incompatibility of Zionism with traditional Jewish values, framing it as a movement that redefined Jewish identity to prioritize political sovereignty over spiritual holiness.
