Organizations like the Ontario Physical and Health Education Association, (OPHEA) are in total support of the new Physical and Health Education course for Ontario schools. This is the course that includes a very radical sex curriculum. OPHEA argues that the new sexual "health" program needed to be updated in order to "reflect the reality of a changing world." So, because puberty occurs earlier in life schools should teach more explicit sexual content. They also cite the issues of Internet safety, bullying, consent and mental health. Parents are told not worry since the same radical sex curriculum is taught in all provinces and is in harmony with both the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the Ontario Human Rights Code. In short, OPHEA tries to sell the sex curriculum as something current and necessary for children's health.
What OPHEA doesn't say outright is that parents have the right to direct the kind of education they deem appropriate when it comes to sex "education," not the government or organizations such as OPHEA and Planned Parenthood. (more...)
