First court hearing for St. Thomas teacher facing sex charges

A 53-year-old St. Thomas high school teacher facing sexual offence charges was not in court Tuesday for a first hearing appearance at the Elgin County Courthouse.

Roger Reid, an Arthur Voaden Secondary School teacher, has been charged with one count of sexual exploitation and one count of sexual assault.

His legal counsel from Toronto requested four weeks to receive and review disclosure relating to a complaint involving an alleged Dec. 29 incident with a student under the age of 18.

Elgin OPP launched an investigation after receiving a complaint from a student earlier this month.

The alleged assault took place at a Central Elgin residence and involved inappropriate sexual touching. Police have not released the age or gender of the complainant.  (more...)
