Canadian law now makes it illegal for publications like the Now Magazine to be on our Toronto streets and public libraries. Bill C-36 Canada’s new prostitution law legally forbids advertising for sexual services. Readers of this blog know that I have written on this issue. I posted an Open Letter to City of Toronto Councillors asking them to remove the Now magazine from Toronto street corners and other public spaces. Now publishes in its back pages adult classifieds together with images that can objectively be described as pornographic.
The magazine is available in our public libraries where children may have access to it. Does this not pose the possible danger of soliciting to minors? The Now newspaper like boxes are also found in front of a number of Toronto's hospitals. Even the city buys advertising space in the publication, including Ontario’s post secondary institutions and major corporations such as Bell and Rogers. (more...)
