Cabri hockey coach pleaded guilty to sex charges

A former hockey coach from Cabri, Ryan Chamberlin, is admitting to sexually assaulting young boys.

In a Swift Current court on Monday, Chamberlin pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual assault, and one count of child luring.

Six other charges against the 39-year-old were stayed. He had been charged on 10 counts.

Steve Kreitzer is the Crown prosecutor on the case. He explained that the other charges were dropped because they were charges on the same actions.

Chamberlin had first been arrested and charged in February, when a set of parents found inappropriate messages from a man to their son. He was charged on four counts, including sexual assault, invitation to sexual touching, sexual exploitation and sexual interference.

At the time RCMP asked any other victims to come forward. More did because in March, Chamberlin was arrested again and charged with two counts of sexual assault, invitation to sexual touching, sexual interference, sexual exploitation, and child luring.

Kreitzer explained there were four victims in all. Their ages ranged from 13 to 14 years at the time the offense happened; between 1994 and the present.  (more...)
