During the last year of debate, any children of same-sex couples who wished to criticize the same-sex parenting movement had to contend with the Gay Lobby's deadliest weapon: social science.In countless conversations, when I bring up my objections to same-sex parenting, I am met with the same dismissal: The "experts" have detected no disadvantages for children raised in same-sex couple homes, so I must be crazy to have any problems with that. That, or my lesbian mother must have been uniquely bad.
This is quite ironic and sad. Sociologists, pediatricians, and psychologists come up with a laundry list of stuff -- "self-esteem," "emotional well-being," and "willingness to communicate" -- and then, like an Army doctor telling you your sprained arm is no reason that you shouldn't be sent back to the front, they tell the people they are supposed to be studying that any problems they have with being deprived of a mom or dad are all in their head.
