Ben Levin investigation spanned two continents, Sun learns

TORONTO - A former provincial deputy education minister who served on Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne’s transition team was being investigated by officers on two continents over child sexual abuse, the Toronto Sun has learned.

Benjamin Levin, 63, is expected to plead guilty Tuesday in a Toronto courtroom to counselling to commit a sexual assault, possession of child pornography and making child pornography.

Levin was being investigated by officers on two continents for discussing the topic of child sexual abuse, according to sources.

Investigators from New Zealand, Toronto and London, Ont., combined their information before members of the Toronto Police Services Sex Crime Unit arrested Levin in June 2013.

Sources said Levin was trolling the Internet to communicate with people who possessed a sexual interest in children prior to his arrest.

Details of Levin’s offences will be revealed when an agreed statement of fact is read in Ontario Court of Justice before Justice Heather McArthur.  (more...)
