Why are Ontario's independent schools silent on the proposed sex education curriculum?

The Premier of Ontario Kathleen Wynne together with the Ministry of Education have announced that they intend to bring back the explicit sex education curriculum that was withdrawn in 2010. One noticeable voice absent in the debate is that of the independent schools. Why have these private schools in Ontario remained largely silent on the issue? Do they believe that they can escape the social and pedagogical consequences of the government's "equity and diversity" policies and the sex education curriculum? Of course these schools run as not-for-profit corporations with charitable status would rather keep out of the limelight when it comes to the controversial questions around "diversity education" and the government's radical sex component of the health and Physical Education course for the school year 2015-16.  (more...)
