Judge orders suspended Cambridge teacher to stand trial on sex charges


KITCHENER — A suspended Preston High School teacher has been committed to stand trial on four sex-related charges.

Sonya Russell, 41, of Waterloo initially faced eight counts related to four alleged victims, all male students at the Cambridge school.

Following a preliminary hearing in Kitchener court, the case was narrowed to four charges involving two teenage boys during 2012.

On Friday, Justice Gary Hearn made the formal order to send Russell to trial. A trial date will be set on Jan. 30.  (more...)
