‘Dysfunctional’ school board: Staff feel threatened by trustees

Insults, yelling, bullying, intimidation — behaviour they wouldn’t tolerate from staff or students.

So how is it that some Toronto District School Board trustees have been getting away with it for so long?

Despite the eruption after a meeting last week over a fringe motion — which, in a drastic move, prompted the chair to call for police presence at school board meetings — the board has for years grappled with trustees badgering staff or fighting with colleagues.

“It is symptomatic of deep divisions that are there,” said one insider. “It is a systemic issue with the TDSB — they are a dysfunctional bunch of political animals.”  (more...)
