More parents opting for home schooling


Elizabeth Millar wants her five children “to learn their gifts” and be curious about education.

And she figures that home schooling is the way to ensure her kids achieve those goals.

Millar is just one of an increasing number of parents who are on board with the alternative education method.

In 2012, there were 21,666 students registered for home schooling in Canada — an increase of 29% over a five-year period, according to the Fraser Institute, a right-wing think tank which produced the report Home Schooling in Canada: The Current Picture — 2015.

Millar has a degree in English and history but she wanted her children to find out who they are without using a traditional educational curriculum.  (more...)
