Sudbury readers queasy about sex-ed curriculum


Nope, Sudburians do not want to hear about it – at least not from the government.

City residents are veering away from the new provincial sex education curriculum, according to this week’s poll question, which has generated significant interest amongst The Star’s readers.

As of Sunday afternoon, more than 900 people had voted online and more than half of those respondents – 58% – say no way to the new curriculum. Only about one third of voters, 35%, have given the thumbs-up, while seven per cent feel uncertain about Liberal plans to talk sex in classrooms.

A few people even took the argument online. Neutron Nanny, as he or she is known on The Star’s website, finds the new curriculum offensive. Clearly not a fan of Kathleen Wynne’s Liberal government, she/he believes it is a veiled attempt to skew children’s perceptions of sex and appropriate behaviour, and calls the curriculum “pedophile-friendly.”

“I doubt any Grade 1 kids would be engaging in drunken hook-ups, unless they (are) hanging out with Liberals,” the Nanny noted.  (more...)
