Trustees to ask city to bar nudity at Pride Parade

Several Toronto school trustees want a guarantee from City Hall that there will be no bare bums allowed this year in the Pride Parade, in which the school board has a float.

They will ask the Toronto District School Board Wednesday to agree to ask the mayor and city council whether they plan to enforce Canada’s ban on public nudity during the popular parade, a highlight of Toronto’s annual Gay Pride weekend, which often includes some marchers who are naked or scantily dressed.

“I have no problem participating with Pride — it’s such a wonderful event that’s also part of our board’s social justice piece — but I cannot sign off to participating and promoting an event where the laws against public nudity are being flouted,” said Trustee Sam Sotiropoulos, who penned the motion.  (more...)
