BBC has made 'significant progress' since Savile scandal, says Tony Hall

The legendary stiff upper lip
The BBC has made “significant progress” in addressing issues raised by the review into the corporation’s culture during the Jimmy Savile and Stuart Hall years, the BBC director general has said.

Dame Janet Smith published her review into the culture and practices of the BBC in February, looking at the period when presenters Savile and Hall were employed and examining the corporation’s connection to the child sexual abuse by Savile.

There were 40 grievances relating to bullying and harassment dealt with in the year to the end of March 2016, with four upheld and eight ongoing, the BBC said at the unveiling of its annual report on Tuesday.

There was one further case complaint made of sexual harassment.

Tony Hall said on Tuesday: “We have made significant progress since 2012. Our child protection, complaints, whistleblowing and investigation processes are all sound – and we are doing even more to make sure all our staff are aware of them.” (more...)

So, all's well? Really?

Burying bad news: Church released child abuse report on same day Theresa May made PM

The Bishop of Rochester was accused of burying the report in Wednesday's news agenda
The independent review yesterday revealed how it became standard practice for girls at Kendall House children’s home in Gravesend Kent to be drugged, raped and physically abused for almost 20 years between 1967 and 1986.

Critics hit out at the Church for not delaying its publication, considering what happened at Westminster took over the world’s news agenda.

The review, ordered by the Bishop of Rochester, the Rt Rev James Longstaff, revealed how girls as young as 11 were habitually plied with strong anti-depressants, anti-psychotic drugs and sedatives, mostly without any medical assessment.

Any girl who resisted or did not react to the effects of the drugs were punished, which included being emotionally abused or locked in solitary confinement for days.

Others said they were raped after being placed in isolation.  (more...)

Police's call to exonerate MI5 over Kincora abuse scandal without further ado disturbing

Last week the inquiry into historical institutional abuse in Northern Ireland finished taking evidence and over the next six months Sir Anthony Hart and his two colleagues will write their report.

They started taking evidence in January 2014 and over the past two years they have heard much harrowing evidence of the physical, mental and sexual abuse that was suffered over many years at 20 residential homes and other institutions.

The 15th and final module of the inquiry started on May 31 — day 204 of the inquiry — and ended on July 8.

That final module dealt with the Bawnmore Children’s Home in Newtownabbey and the infamous Kincora Boys’ Home in east Belfast, but the focus was particularly on Kincora.

That final module of the public evidence sessions passed almost unnoticed in the midst of a constant flood of news about Brexit, political turmoil in both the Conservative and Labour parties, and the murder of police officers in America.

There were reports in the newspapers and other media, but there was no in-depth analysis.  (more...)

As the brain-dead battle the brain-washed, the puppetmasters laugh at their private joke

Guess who they're laughing at?
Our masters have created two camps in Western Society, that of the politically correct leftists and that of the “Western” “conservatives”. Both camps combat each other, not recognizing that both serve as mercenary troops of the New World Order.

In recent times Europe has been shocked and shaken by a series of terror attacks performed by Islamist terrorists. These events have caused a lot people to state that the Muslim world in general is our enemy and that Muslims are a savage horde, living in an inferior, unenlightened, primitive culture that – in order to pacify the world – has to be transformed in accordance to the achievements and “values” of “the West”. But, there are a few points to be considered to see the whole picture:

First of all, there are many decent people who are Muslims and, for example, in London, Paris or Berlin, assiduously run a vegetable store around the corner, bring up their children, telling them to be honest and polite, to show respect to elder people and think highly of tradition and strict morals. These people emphasize the differences between the sexes and the necessity of hierarchy. They are against homosexuality, abortion, the destruction of the (patriarchal) family and the Enlightenment philosophies. They are even pious, but unfortunately they believe in the wrong religion, namely Islam. And although Islam is – in many respects – an evil religion, some people surprisingly and fortunately draw some good and wise conclusions out of their – maybe insufficient – common sense interpretation of Islamic faith.

So what we as Christians have to do is this: we have to try to evangelise and convert them. (Or should we – horribile dictum – say: proselytise them?) But how do we do that, if we say to them: You belong to a savage horde and an inferior culture?

A judgement like that is in itself an indication of an inferior cultural formation, because educated people know of the magnificent creations that the Oriental culture brought forth in the fields of architecture, poetry (for example think of Hafis, whose poems tops Goethe, whose “West-Östlicher Diwan” was influenced by them), fine arts and craftsmanship (for example goldsmithery or furniture-, fabric- and carpet production), the cuisine, and even music. The crusaders were so fascinated by the achievement of the refined Oriental culture, that the European aristocratic lifestyle was influenced by it, when the Christian knights returned to their unheatable castles in the foggy forests of Germany and northern France.  (more...)

School board investigates Mississauga teacher after speech at pro-Palestinian rally

Nadia Shoufani, a Mississauga, Ont. teacher, spoke at a rally in Toronto on July 2,
praising members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine
A Mississauga, Ont., teacher is being investigated by the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board after she spoke at a rally in early July urging Palestinians to fight back against Israel and praising a group that the Canadian government lists as a terrorist entity.

Nadia Shoufani, a teacher at St. Catherine of Siena Separate School in Mississauga, praised two people linked to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine: Ghassan Kanafani, a Palestinian writer killed in 1972; and Georges Ibrahim Abdallah, a Lebanese militant imprisoned in France for killing two U.S. and Israeli officials.

"Palestine will be liberated. Glory to the martyrs," she said to a crowd at the International Al-Quds Day rally on July 2 behind Queen's Park in Toronto. "We have the right to fight back. We have the right to resist," she said.

Bruce Campbell, general manager of communications and community relations for the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board, said Wednesday an investigation has begun. He said the matter was brought to the board's attention through a number of sources, including the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center and B'nai Brith Canada.

"The board was made aware of this issue last week and is investigating," Campbell said. "Given the serious nature of the issue, we would look to reach a resolution as quickly as possible."  (more...)

Kendall House: Girls drugged and abused at church-run home

Girls at a church-run children's home were routinely drugged, locked up and physically, emotionally and sexually abused, a review has found.

Hundreds of girls were sent to Kendall house in Gravesend in the 1960s, 70s and 80s, before it closed in 1986.

The independent review set up by the Bishop of Rochester said the home was a place where cruelty was normalised.

It found girls were heavily sedated and placed in straitjackets. The Church of England has apologised.

In a report the inquiry team said: "The findings are harrowing."

The home was "a place where control, containment and sometimes cruelty were normalised."

The review found girls as young as 11 were "routinely and often without any initial medical assessment, given antidepressants, sedatives and anti-psychotic medication".  (more...)
