Obama’s first college now offers a whole class on ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’

The mediocre private liberal arts college that President Barack Obama attended from 1979 to 1981 before wisely transferring to Columbia University as a junior will now offer real academic credit for students who want to study the reality show “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”

The spring course at Occidental College in Los Angeles is entitled “Reading RuPaul: Camp Culture, Gender Insubordination, and the Politics of Performance,” reports Campus Reform.

The class will analyze “RuPaul’s Drag Race” from both gay and feminist gay viewpoints. Coursework will include watching a bunch of episodes of the Logo TV reality show and reading “Workin’ It,” a book RuPaul wrote in 2010.  (more...)

Montana’s top court asked to beef up light sentence given to predatory teacher

Stacey Dean Rambold
BILLINGS, Mont. – Montana prosecutors are appealing a 30-day jail sentence handed down to a former high school teacher for raping a 14-year-old female student who later committed suicide.

In a controversial ruling in August, Judge Todd Baugh sentenced former Billings Senior High School teacher Stacey Dean Rambold, 54, to a mere month behind bars for having a sexual relationship with student Cherice Morales in 2008, a troubled 14-year-old at the time, CNN reports.

The judge has since tried to renege the light sentence, which he originally justified by claiming Morales was more mature than her age and “just as in control” of the relationship as her teacher. The state Supreme Court, however, ruled Baugh doesn’t have the legal authority to change the sentence, according to media reports.

The Montana Attorney General’s Office is now appealing the teacher’s sentence to the state Supreme Court on the grounds that it does not meet the state’s minimum two-year mandatory sentence. Prosecutors believe a 10-year prison sentence, which they originally called for at trial, is a more appropriate punishment, CNN reports.  (more...)

One-size-fits-all doesn’t suit education

John Carpay
The recent controversy over the recitation of the Lord’s Prayer at a public school in Taber underscores the need for real choice and real diversity in public education. Some say religion has no place in public schools. Others argue that Christians of various denominations, who make up the overwhelming majority of Taber’s citizens, pay taxes for public education and are therefore entitled to a school which reflects and practises their beliefs.

This controversy shows that a one-size-fits-all model for public education can function only in a homogenous society where everyone (or almost everyone) has the same worldview or philosophical assumptions.

In Canada’s pluralistic society, many people adhere to a variety of non-Christian worldviews, including atheism, agnosticism, Judaism, Islam, and other religions. While atheist, agnostic, and other non-Christian parents have every right to demand that their children not be required to recite the Lord’s Prayer in school, their position is neither neutral nor objective.  (more...)

Sex exducation today is dangerous to young people

Title: You’re Teaching My Child What?: A Physician Exposes the Lies of Sex Education and How They Harm Your Child.

Author: Miriam Grossman

Publisher: Regnery Pubishing, Inc., 2009

The sex education that young people are receiving today has little to do with heath and preventing the spread of sexually transmitted disease. Instead of helping students live healthy lives, these school programs actually spread very radical and life threatening ideas. The guidelines developed by such organizations as Planned Parenthood, the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS) and Advocates for Youth (AFY) expose young people to messages that are dangerous.

This is the frightening thesis of You’re Teaching My Child What: A Physician Exposes the Lies of Sex Education and How They Harm Your Child. This news should galvanize every parent into action. These organizations have no use for moral values, of connecting human sexuality to family or to a loving relationship and to abstinence.  (more...)

Explain why you snatched baby girl at birth: Judge's order to social workers behind forced caesarean

The judge who heads the family courts, Sir
James Munby, has demanded to know why
the girl should not be reunited with her mother
Social workers who made a mother give up her baby after a forced caesarean must explain themselves to Britain’s top family judge.

In a highly unusual intervention, Sir James Munby has demanded to know why the girl should not be reunited with her mother, a 35-year-old Italian.

Fabio Roia, the most senior judge in Milan, said the woman’s treatment by a secret court resembled a horror film – an unprecedented ‘act of extreme violence’ that could not have happened in Italy.

The mother, who was suffering from a mental illness, was subjected to a caesarean on the orders of the controversial Court of Protection.  (more...)
