Former coach sentenced to 7 years for sexual assaults

A former hockey coach who befriended an Etobicoke, Ont., family to "systematically and repeatedly" sexually abuse their two youngest sons was imprisoned for seven years Wednesday.

Justice Mary Lou Benotto said that Michael Dimmick "preyed upon and exploited the these children" for many years and groomed his victims by buying them gifts and showering them with attention.

"Mr. Dimmick put himself in a calculated position of trust from which he abused the two brothers and their friends," said Justice Benotto.

She convicted Dimmick, 75, in June of 14 sexual offences, including indecent assault and buggery against each brother and indecent assault against the friends between the late 1960s and the 1970s.  (more...)
