Churches across Canada defy public health orders to observe Easter

Churches across Canada defied public health orders so congregants could meet over the weekend and observe Easter.

Church doors were opened as part of Liberty Coalition Canada’s “We Will Gather” initiative, which encouraged churches to worship on Good Friday and Easter Sunday without government-imposed restrictions that “violate personal conscience, the nature of worship, or the ability for people to participate.” 

Liberty Coalition was pleased with the turnout, said campaign manager Michael Thiessen, who’s also the pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Alliston, Ont. 

“It was a great time of celebration of Jesus’ death and resurrection,” he said, “and that is what we want to be freely able to do.”

In total, 79 churches across Canada signed their names to a list, posted to Liberty Coalition’s website, announcing intentions to keep their doors open for Easter  (more...)
