UK: Big increase in number of alleged Op Hydrant offenders

Investigations into former prime minister Edward Heath continue
Police are now investigating 2,777 alleged child sexual abuse offenders under Operation Hydrant - an increase of 449 since February, according to new figures.

Officers working on Operation Hydrant, the over-arching police investigation into alleged child sex abuse by prominent people and at key institutions, today released their quarterly update.

The figure for politicians under investigation has increased since February from 92 to 99 individuals. These include national and local politicians.

A total of 348 "persons of public prominence" - including the politicians - are under investigation. This figure also includes: 164 people from the media, 49 people from the music industry, and 15 from the world of sport.  (more...)
