Catholic school board fumbles with Ford football gear

Call it a dropped pass by the Toronto District Catholic School Board.

Or a touchdown for those trying to score points against Mayor Rob Ford.

Either way, whatever uniform you support, it was a football turnover that may have cost the taxpayers up to $60,000 to provide football equipment at Don Bosco high school.

When Ford was fired as coach of the Don Bosco Eagles in the spring, he publicly said the $80,000 worth of football gear he provided to the students could stay with the team and for the school to consider it a donation.

There were reports he wanted to take his equipment back but Ford has told me several times that was “never” the case.

Ford said as far as he knew, the school had accepted the donation and would be using the equipment this year.

Then last Wednesday, his staff said they received an e-mail that indicated the school wanted the equipment picked up immediately.

“I was told to remove it or they would dispose of it,” Ford said over the weekend. “I was surprised but we did what they requested.”  (more...)
