Chief Constable Simon Bailey leads Operation Hydrant for the NPCC

The National Police Chiefs Council’s lead officer on child sexual abuse has told Exaro that the number of cases of alleged abuse by prominent people could increase further.

Simon Bailey, the chief constable of Norfolk, this week outlined why he believes police forces are handling heavier caseloads of CSA claims than ever before – including the number of allegations made against prominent individuals.

Bailey told Exaro: "While victims continue to demonstrate increased confidence to come forward and report having been the victim of child sexual abuse, the number of such offences recorded by the police service will continue to increase.

"Operation Hydrant was established in August 2014, whenit became clear that police forces were experiencing a surge in the number of adults coming forward to report having been sexually abused as a child," he added.  (more...)
