advocacy organization.
SYDNEY — When he first went to police to report having been sexually abused as a child growing up in the Strait area, Dale Sutherland never expected to find himself on a stage in Winnipeg almost 21 years later receiving a standing ovation.

But that’s what happened Monday as the Guysborough County native and Bob Martin, his fellow complainant in the Ernest Fenwick MacIntosh case, were presented with the Rosalind Prober Award from Beyond Borders, a national children's rights advocacy organization.

Sutherland and Martin were honoured for the work they have done as advocates for survivors of sexual abuse.

“I was both honoured and humbled by it,” Sutherland said in a phone interview. “It was very nice to receive that award and I felt very appreciated.”

The award recognizes Canadians who have made a significant contribution toward combating the sexual victimization of children. Prober is the past-president and co-founder of Beyond Borders.  (more...)
