Officers said the woman was assaulted at approximately 3 p.m. on Monday, as she walked to pick up her son. She was outside of Grenoble Public School, on Grenoble Drive near Don Mills Road and Eglinton Avenue East, when two men began to yell at her.
Police said she was approached from behind, then beaten and kicked. Her cellphone and money were stolen and racial slurs were hurled at her, officers said.
The woman got away and went into the school. She was then taken to hospital to be treated for her injuries. Police officers who were in the area were then flagged down by someone who works at the school.
At the time of the assault, she was wearing clothing associated with the Muslim faith, police said, adding that they are investigating the assault as a hate crime. (more...)
