The Impending Revolution Against Public Schools
Social conservatives have lost many battles over the last few decades: support for abortion is now so deeply ingrained among the elites of Canadian society that even the idea of discussing it is considered to be beyond the pale; as well, support for the traditional family and the traditional definition of marriage is frequently labeled as "hate."
Flying beneath the radar, however, is a growing story of social conservative success in the arena of private education, especially home schooling. Increasing numbers of conservative Christian families have been opting to teach their children at home. The numbers are particularly noteworthy in the United States (currently about 1.5 million children), but home schooling is also a force in Canada. This phenomenon bodes well for the future.
If former Congressman Ron Paul is right, the future looks bright indeed. His new book, The School Revolution: A New Answer for Our Broken Education System (2013), argues that the cost of high quality education at home is declining rapidly due to new technologies, especially the internet. Educational materials are increasingly available for free or at little cost over the Web, a fact which will lead to a significant restructuring of the educational system. (more...)
