Police investigating after ombudsman accuses officer of sending ‘deplorable’ tweets calling him a member of al-Qaeda

Ontario Ombudsman André Marin on Thursday accused a Durham Regional Police officer of writing hateful tweets about him from an alias account.

Mr. Marin alleged on Twitter the messages came from an account belonging to a Detective Constable calling himself “Joe Mayo.” The tweets included accusations that Mr. Marin was a card-carrying member of al-Qaeda.
